President must convince Nigerians on fuel subsidy - Legislator

Abuja: Rep. Taiwo Adenekan, the member for Ajeromi Ifelodun Federal Constituency, says the president must convince Nigerians to get the support of the National Assembly on the plan to remove fuel subsidy.

Adenekan spoke to newsmen in Lagos at the graduation ceremony of the Computer Training, Adult Literacy and Skill Acquisition programme, organised by the deputy speaker of Lagos State House of Assembly.

"If the people say no to the deregulation, we are on their side; unless the president is able to convince Nigerians and the people say go ahead, then the National Assembly will support it.

"Each time we come home we meet hunger and suffering of the people, so we know how people feel and that is why we are always on the side of the people."

Adenekan commended the Deputy Speaker, Mr Kolawole Taiwo, for organising the entrepreneurship and empowerment training programme for the people in his constituency.

He said the programme was a away that Taiwo chose to show appreciation to the people for their support during the election.

"Whatever appreciation we show can never be too much and this is part of it because as at this time our people deserve to be served nothing but the best," he said.

On his part, Taiwo said 318 people benefitted from the training, while six secondary schools received 10 computers after a quiz competition.

Taiwo said the programme was meant to empower the people, adding that the beneficiaries received tools to practise their skills.

"I don't just want them to be trained alone, I also want them to be equipped with the materials needed to start, and that's why we bought these material for them."

Abidemi Ajibola a beneficiary of the computer training, appreciated the efforts of the deputy speaker toward changing the quality of life in his constituency.

"If not for him I would not have been computer literate by now, I have been able to learn a lot and I am proud to be computer literate," he said.

The beneficiaries received equipment for soap making, tie and die.
